Add VAT to a net price or strip VAT out of a gross price at any rate.
Net (excl. VAT)$100.00
VAT amount$20.00
Gross (incl. VAT)$120.00
To ADD VAT, gross = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100) and the VAT is net × rate ÷ 100. To REMOVE VAT, net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100) and the VAT is gross − net. At 20%: a $100 net price becomes $120 gross (+$20 VAT); a $120 gross price contains $100 net and $20 VAT. Pick the mode to switch between the two.

Questions
How do I remove VAT from a price?
Divide the gross (VAT-inclusive) price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. At 20%, divide by 1.2: a $120 gross price is $100 net plus $20 VAT.
How do I add VAT to a price?
Multiply the net price by 1 plus the rate as a decimal. At 20%, a $100 net price becomes $100 × 1.2 = $120, of which $20 is VAT.
