GST works exactly like VAT. To ADD GST, gross = net × (1 + rate ÷ 100). To REMOVE GST, net = gross ÷ (1 + rate ÷ 100) and the GST is gross − net. At a 10% rate, a $100 net price becomes $110 gross (+$10 GST), and a $110 gross price contains $100 net plus $10 GST.

How do I calculate GST from a total?
Divide the GST-inclusive total by 1 plus the rate as a decimal to get the net amount, then subtract. At 10%, a $110 total is $100 net plus $10 GST.
Is GST the same as VAT?
The maths is identical — both are added as a percentage of the net price. Only the name and the typical rates differ between countries.
