Tiles needed = area ÷ area of one tile × (1 + waste ÷ 100), rounded up. A 30 cm × 30 cm tile is 0.09 m². To cover 20 m² with a 10% waste allowance: 20 ÷ 0.09 × 1.10 ≈ 244.4, rounded up to 245 tiles. The waste allowance covers cuts, breakages and future repairs.

Questions

How many tiles do I need?
Divide the area to cover by the area of one tile, add a waste allowance, then round up. For 20 m² with 0.09 m² tiles and 10% waste you need 245 tiles.
How much waste should I allow?
Allow around 10% for straightforward layouts and up to 15–20% for diagonal patterns or rooms with lots of cuts. Keep a few spares for future repairs.
