Paint needed = wall area ÷ coverage per litre × number of coats. A litre typically covers about 10 m² per coat. For 40 m² of wall at 10 m²/L with 2 coats: 40 ÷ 10 × 2 = 8 L. Buy a little extra for touch-ups and round up to whole tins — the tin figure assumes 2.5 L tins.

Questions

How much paint do I need for a wall?
Divide the wall area by the paint's coverage per litre, then multiply by the number of coats. For 40 m² at 10 m²/L over 2 coats you need 8 litres.
How much does one litre of paint cover?
Most emulsions cover roughly 10–12 m² per litre per coat, but check the tin — rough or porous surfaces and bold colour changes need more.
