How to crop an image

Cropping to a precise size

If you need an exact crop (for example a square avatar), type the width and height values directly instead of dragging. The fields are clamped to the image bounds, so the selection can never run off the edge.

Yes. As well as dragging a box on the preview, you can type an exact x, y, width and height in pixels. Both stay in sync, and every value is clamped to the image so the crop is always valid.
What format is the cropped image?
We export a lossless PNG, preserving any transparency and keeping edges sharp. You can then convert or compress it with the other tools if you need a smaller file.
