Print size = pixels ÷ DPI. A 3000 × 2400 px image at 300 DPI prints at 3000 ÷ 300 = 10 in by 2400 ÷ 300 = 8 in (25.4 × 20.3 cm). 300 DPI is the standard for sharp photo prints; large prints viewed from a distance can drop to 150–200 DPI. To print bigger at the same DPI you need more pixels.
Questions
How do I work out print size from pixels?
Divide each pixel dimension by the print resolution in DPI. A 3000 × 2400 px image at 300 DPI prints at 10 × 8 inches.
What DPI should I print at?
300 DPI is the standard for crisp photo prints held at reading distance. Posters and banners viewed from farther away look fine at 150–200 DPI, which lets the same file print larger.
