Fence Calculator
Estimate the posts and panels for a fence run from its length and post spacing.
Panels (sections)24panels
Posts25posts
Spacing used2.50m
Panels = fence length ÷ post spacing, rounded up, and a straight run needs one more post than panels (a post at each end plus one between every pair of panels). For 60 m at 2.5 m spacing: 60 ÷ 2.5 = 24 panels and 25 posts. The actual spacing shown is the length spread evenly across the whole-number of panels.
Questions
How many fence posts do I need?
Divide the length by the post spacing to get the number of panels, then add one — a straight run needs a post at each end. 60 m at 2.5 m spacing needs 24 panels and 25 posts.
What post spacing should I use?
Timber panel fences are usually spaced to the panel width — commonly about 1.8–2.5 m. Closer spacing is sturdier in exposed, windy spots.
