0 taps

Tap the button — or press Space — on each beat. After two taps you’ll see a tempo, and it sharpens with every tap as we average the last 8 intervals. Pause for a couple of seconds and the count restarts so you can time a new section. It’s pure timing maths in your browser; no sound is played and nothing is uploaded.

How to find a song's BPM

Play the track, then tap the button — or press Space — once on each beat in time with the music. The tempo appears after two taps and keeps refining as you tap. Aim for at least four to eight steady taps for a reliable reading.

Getting an accurate reading

Tap on the strong, steady pulse of the song rather than every note. If you lose the beat, pause for a couple of seconds to reset, then start tapping again. The counter averages your most recent taps, so a few clean beats beat many rushed ones.

Questions

How does tapping find the BPM?
Each tap is timestamped, and we measure the gaps between taps. A reading appears after two taps and sharpens as you keep going, since we average the most recent intervals to estimate the tempo in beats per minute.
How many times should I tap?
Tap steadily on the beat for at least four to eight beats. More taps average out small timing slips for a more accurate result. If you pause for a couple of seconds the count resets so you can time a new section cleanly.
Can I tap with my keyboard?
Yes. Click the Tap button or press the Space bar (or Enter) on each beat — whichever is more comfortable. It's pure timing maths; no sound is played and nothing is uploaded.
