For equally likely outcomes, probability = favorable outcomes ÷ total outcomes. Rolling a single number on a six-sided die is 1 ÷ 6 ≈ 0.1667, or about 16.67%. Probability always sits between 0 (impossible) and 1 (certain). The odds against are the number of ways it doesn't happen for each way it does — here 5 to 1.

Questions

How do I calculate simple probability?
Divide the number of favorable outcomes by the total number of equally likely outcomes. Rolling a particular number on a six-sided die is 1 ÷ 6 ≈ 0.167, or about 16.67%.
What is the difference between probability and odds?
Probability compares favorable outcomes to all outcomes (1 in 6). Odds compare favorable to unfavorable outcomes — here 1 way it happens against 5 ways it doesn't, written 5 to 1 against.
What range can a probability take?
Always between 0 and 1: a probability of 0 means the event cannot happen, 1 means it is certain, and 0.5 means it is equally likely to happen or not.
