Engagement rate = (likes + comments) ÷ followers × 100. With 10,000 followers, 400 likes and 100 comments: (400 + 100) ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 5.00%. As a rough guide, 1–3% is typical, 3–6% is strong and above 6% is excellent — smaller accounts often trend higher than large ones. Calculated live in your browser; nothing is uploaded.

How to calculate engagement rate

Enter your follower count, the number of likes and the number of comments on the post. The tool adds the likes and comments, divides by your followers and multiplies by 100 to show the engagement rate as a percentage.

Benchmarking a post

Run the numbers for several posts to see which formats land best. Compare against typical ranges for your platform and follower tier rather than chasing a single universal target, since smaller accounts naturally trend higher.

Questions

How is engagement rate calculated?
The most common method divides total interactions (likes plus comments) by your follower count, then multiplies by 100. For 10,000 followers with 400 likes and 100 comments: (400 + 100) ÷ 10,000 × 100 = 5% engagement.
What is a good engagement rate?
It varies by platform and audience size. As a rough guide, 1–3% is typical on Instagram, with anything above 3–6% considered strong; smaller accounts often see higher rates than large ones.
Should I use followers or reach?
This calculator uses followers, which is the standard for comparing accounts. Engagement by reach (interactions ÷ people who saw the post) can be more accurate for a single post, but reach is not always public.
