Body fat20.3%
BMI24.7

This BMI-based estimate (Deurenberg, men) is: body fat % = 1.20 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 16.2, where BMI = weight(kg) ÷ height(m)². For a 30-year-old man, 80 kg, 180 cm: BMI ≈ 24.7, so body fat ≈ 20.3%. For women, add 5.4 instead of subtracting 16.2. This is an estimate — calipers or DEXA scans are more accurate.

Questions

How accurate is the BMI body-fat method?
It is a rough estimate based on population averages. It does not account for muscle mass, so athletes may read high. Calipers, bioimpedance or a DEXA scan are more accurate.
What formula is used?
The Deurenberg equation for men: body fat % = 1.20 × BMI + 0.23 × age − 16.2, where BMI is weight in kg divided by height in metres squared.
